The story ‘Leela’s Friend’ is about a girl named Leela.Her father Mr. Sivasanker was looking for a servant when Sidda came in front of the house Mr. Sivasanker scrutinized him, interrogated him and expressed a fair opinion about him. He is appointed as a servant in the house of Mr. and Mrs. Shiv Sivasanker. He was given two meals a day and four rupees in a month in return he had to do all the household chores. gradually he became Leela’s playmate. Sidda’s company made her supremely happy.

Leela was very happy with the tricks that siddha showed her. She played the role of a teacher for Sidda but Sidda was not interested in learning. She had become used to listening to stories directly after dinner. Gradually their bond with each other became stronger. One evening Sidda went to the market,Leela also followed him. When they returned Leela’s mother noticed that the gold chain that Leela was wearing was missing. Sidda was suspected of theft.Frightened Sidda ran away from the house.When Mr.Sivasanker came to know about the incident immediately he lodged a complaint in the police station.The police inspector informed him that Sidda was an old criminal and has been jailed half a dozen times for stealing children’s jewellery.

After four days a police inspector brought Sidha home.Leela’s mother and father blamed him for the betrayal but Sidda didn’t respond. Leela always stood by her friend Sidha but her protest had no effect on the police inspector. Sidda was taken back to the police station he did not confess his crime even after possible interrogation. Sivasanker and his wife wondered at Sidda’s stubbornness,then after a few days Leela’s chain was found in the tamarind pot.Leela’s father told his wife that he would inform the police that the chain had been found yet he was unwilling to reappoint Sidda as he had already been recognised as a criminal
