In his autobiography Strong Roots, Abdul Kalam portrayed his childhood days, his father’s hardships, the relationship with their neighbors and his father’s spirituality and beliefs that influenced him a lot. They often discussed the spiritual matter. When Abdul Kalam asked his father about the importance of prayer, he replied that it was not a mysterious matter. His father explained that prayer is a communion of spirit between people. This prayer to God transcended one’s body and at that moment he became a part of the universe where wealth, age, cast and creed did not matter at all.
